Hi Bradley Farm Swim Team parents and former Team families, We will be holding our 6th annual Swim-Athon the evening of Monday, July 21, from 4-8pm. This is intended to be another fun way to raise money in remembrance of Jacob and David for the Wilens-Chu Scholarship Fund.
Since we have many families who did not know Jacob and David, I wrote my attempt to introduce you to them. It can be found here for anyone who wants to read it. The basic concepts of the Swimathon are as follows: Kids (and adults who are going to swim) get pledges from relatives and friends (e.g. 5 cents per length, or fixed amount). Having a great cause sure helps make this easier.
Pledge sheets with Jacob and David's pictures are available here. When getting pledges, please also encourage anyone pledging a lot per length to "cap" the total amount in case your child surprises them by swimming 100+ lengths. People are amazed at what some of the younger kids can do. Swimmers swim for a while, then get out and rest, eat, etc. Parents and siblings count lengths (there will be time slots to sign up for and length notebooks per lane to track swimmers' lengths) We are looking to have snacks, hearty finger foods, drinks, etc. during the timeframe ... whatever people are willing to bring. :-) Not everyone will get in the water at 4pm - most kids will be in and out a few times during the evening.
There will be awards for 1. The most lengths swum (separate prizes for 10 & under, 11 & over) 2. The most money raised (1 prize) 3. The special "300-double" award for anyone who raises $300+ and swims 300+ lengths is GUARANTEED an award (once the money is turned in :-) As usual, we will need our wonderful Bradley Farm volunteers. Here is what we need help with. Please email me with what you are willing to do or bring. 1. Food - snacks, hearty finger food, drinks - if you know how to get food donated by local businesses, I'm all for it 2. Ice, cups, plates, napkins 3. length Counters - please indicate what 1-hour time slots you are available for and what slots you prefer If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. If you have any suggestions or see something missing, let me know. Either email or phone call is fine.
Thanks,
